ABOUT ME

My name is Rachael Ferraloro and I have over 13 years experience playing piano. More recently I have gained experience in teaching piano through completing the Piano Pedagogy minor at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Although music is not my full time profession, it is a huge part of who I am, and I hope that you will love learning to play the piano as much as I have.

This course was created as the culmination of my work in the Edgar Fellows Honors Program at SUNY Geneseo. More information about the course itself can be found below.

Any inquiries into pursuing further one-on-one instruction with me are welcomed.

Piano on Stage

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

In my experience, many adults express the desire to learn to play the piano but are reluctant to commit to the time and cost of taking piano lessons. To alleviate this issue, I have built a free virtual asynchronous course to allow self-learners with no prior musical background to learn the basics of playing piano before committing to a one-on-one instructor. This course features ten different modules of video lessons, practice exercises, theory worksheets, history lessons, and quizzes that students may approach at their own pace. Students also learn the fundamentals of reading music, and each module is equipped with additional resources to bolster learning. The course is hosted on this website, which was created through wix.com. The effectiveness of this course was analyzed by collecting survey data from students who completed various modules of the course. In addition to using the contact form on the home page, students may continue to fill out the form at https://forms.gle/QwgT9wcHcpWvF1dn9 to provide me with constructive feedback so that I can continue to make improvements on the course in the future.
